Translation:
My sunny, free land, happiness and salvation to your people,
You are a companion to an unfading name, great glory and honor!
The awakened life that has returned to antiquity,

The unfading faith of the broad-hearted Uzbek,
The free, young generations are a great wing to you!
The torch of independence, the guardian of peace,
Truth-loving, mother homeland, be eternally prosperous!

The manly spirit of your ancestors is a companion to you!
The time when the power of a great people burst forth,
A land that has fascinated the world!

  • The national anthem of Uzbekistan has a heavy political and structural history. The music was originally composed by Mutal Burhonov in 1947 as the anthem for the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. When the nation gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, they made the unique decision to keep the entire original melody but completely stripped out the Soviet political lyrics. New verses focusing on freedom, peace, and national rebirth were penned by the famous Uzbek poet Abdulla Oripov and officially adopted in 1992.
