• The national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina, officially known simply as "Državna himna" (The National Anthem), creates a deeply intense and highly unusual acoustic spectacle in football stadiums due to its controversial lack of official words. When the music begins, the players stand in silence while tens of thousands of passionate supporters, led by the fanatical BHFanaticos group, proudly hold up their blue and yellow flags or scarves and roar out their own unofficial lyrics at the top of their lungs to drown out the stadium speakers. The absolute peak of stadium volume crashes through the arena during the opening orchestral bars on the line "Jedna si jedina" (You are the one and only), where fans punch their fists in the air with immense emotion. A profound piece of history behind this anthem is that the original post-independence anthem, Jedna si jedina, was replaced in 1999 by a wordless instrumental composition by Dušan Šestić to appease all ethnic groups within the complex political landscape of the nation. Supporters flatly refused to accept a silent anthem, resulting in an enduring football tradition where fans fiercely reject the state's enforced silence by singing the beloved old lyrics over the new melody at every single matchday.
