Bahrain’s national anthem is one of the shortest in the world, running under a minute during official performances and international football kick-offs. The original music was adopted in 1971 following independence, but the lyrics were later updated in 2002 by poet Mohamed Sudqi Ayyash when Bahrain transitioned from an emirate to a constitutional kingdom. Today, football fans across the Gulf are known for shouting the final line—"‘Āshat Mamlakatul-Bahrain"—at full blast to cap off the pre-match ceremony.
